NTS neurone - optical microscopy

Optical micrograph of a nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) neurone imaged on a Zeiss light microscope, at the laboratory of Dr Paul Martin,  University of Sydney.  The single neurone has been labelled with a fluorescent marker infused while recording intracellular activity.  The neurone has been photographed and rendered into digital format.  The difference between the previous neurones (if you have been on the guided tour) is that the confocal microscope takes optical "slices", which are each in focus, and can be summed in software.  The light microscope includes out of focus elements in the image.
