Nucleus of the tractus solitarius

Separate and superposed micrographs of a nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) neurone imaged on a BioRad confocal microscope, at the University of Sydney.  The single neurone has been labelled with a fluorescent marker infused while recording intracellular activity.  The NTS has been labelled for an enzyme (tyrosine hydroxylase) and the two separate images combined in software (customised Igor Pro program).  The 3D resolution of the confocal microscope shows that the recorded neurone stains positive for the enzyme, which localises mainly in the cell body (soma).
